Buying a sauna in Winnipeg
Thinking about a sauna of your own? Here’s what to know about choosing one, preparing your space and bringing it home in Winnipeg.
The price depends on the model, size and features you choose. Start with our current sauna prices, then request a quote for your property.Along with the sauna, allow for any base preparation, electrical work, permits and applicable taxes. We’ll help you pin down what’s included before you order.
Our purchasing guide lists delivery within Winnipeg and installation as included, with taxes extra. Your quote will confirm the details for your model and address. For a home outside Winnipeg or a Manitoba cottage, send us the address and a few photos of the access. We’ll confirm delivery arrangements and any additional charges before you order.
The answer is a resounding YES. Winter is a great time to enjoy our saunas. Allow more time for a cold sauna to warm up; the weather, room size, windows and heating setup all make a difference.Choose a spot with an easy path from the house, keep the entrance clear of snow and consider whether a change room would be useful.
The heating setup depends on the sauna model. Electric options are available for most sauna options, and we’ll confirm the heater and power rating for the size and layout you choose. Wood-fired setups are also available at no extra charge; the Wolseley is electric-only as its our smallest sauna. If you’re considering electric heat, we’ll provide the model’s requirements so your electrician can plan the connection. You don’t need to work out the heater specifications on your own.
Have an electrician review the requirements for your chosen sauna before installation. The connection, circuit and any work at your electrical panel depend on the heater and your property.Electrical permits and inspections are handled by the City of Winnipeg inside city limits and Manitoba Hydro outside them. See Manitoba Hydro’s permit guidance and agree with your electrician on who arranges the permit and inspection. In general we reccommend a 200Amp panel, this gives you plenty of room to use other appliances.
Check with the City before preparing your site. Winnipeg requires a building permit for detached accessory structures larger than 10 m² (108 sq. ft.). A smaller footprint does not settle every requirement: the location, zoning and heating installation still matter.Confirm how your sauna will be classified and which approvals apply to your address. Start with the City’s accessory-structure guidance or call its Permits Direct Line at 204-986-5140.
There may be a few additional requirements depending on your location, but don’t worry—we’ll help guide you through the process. We recommend checking local regulations, and we’ll provide as much information as possible to make installation simple.
Your sauna simply needs a **flat, level, and stable surface**. Common options include:- Wood deck- Concrete patio- Stone pavers over a level gravel baseWe can help you determine the best option for your space and your budget
Start with the people who’ll use the sauna most often. Two people who want to stretch out may prefer a different layout from a group sitting together. Compare usable bench space and the hot room, not just the outside dimensions. We can also discuss a custom build if our standard layouts don’t suit your space. Tell us what you have in mind for seating, windows and changing space, and we’ll work through the possibilities with you.
Electric saunas are surprisingly affordable to run in Manitoba. A typical **30–40 amp sauna costs roughly $1 per hour or less** while heating. Most saunas take about an hour to reach temperature, and once they do, the heater automatically shuts off. What affects usage? Outdoor temperature, sauna size, desired temperature, and how long you use your sauna can all affect energy consumption.
Absolutely. A weekend rental lets you get a feel for the seating, space and wood-fired routine before choosing a sauna for your home. Our try-before-you-buy offer lets you put your weekend rental cost, up to $400, toward a new sauna.
Most of our saunas have an approximately **6-week lead time**. This gives you plenty of time to prepare your site, build your base, and coordinate any electrical work before your sauna arrives.Planning for winter? We strongly recommend getting started early and having your base prepared before the ground freezes, as winter site preparation can require significantly more labour.
Send us your questions or a photo of the space. We’re happy to help you work out what fits.
